About Us
International Support for Uyghurs (ISU) is a not-for-profit organization based in Montreal, Canada. ISU is dedicated to supporting the Uyghurs and other Turkic people oppressed and persecuted by the Chinese Government in East Turkistan, through advocacy projects and initiatives. ISU also works to magnify the voices of the East Turkistan diaspora members in Canada and all around the world.
Mission Statement
ISU promotes basic human rights and freedoms of the people in East Turkistan and empowers the East Turkistan diaspora members who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, refugees, and refugee claimants, through its advocacy activities.
Main Activities
ISU holds local, national, and international events to raise awareness of the gross human rights violations the Uyghurs and other Turkic people are facing under the Chinese Government in East Turkistan. ISU members and volunteers organize peaceful protests, hold seminars to spread knowledge and create better solutions to the plight of East Turkistan's people. ISU also gives press releases to Members of Parliament, Members of the National Assembly of Quebec, and subscribers. ISU offers a voice for Uyghurs and all other peoples of East Turkistan and exposes their sufferings through the media to make them heard. ISU holds an annual Uyghur Canadian Conference where everyone can exchange knowledge and learn more about the Uyghurs to rally support for the Uyghurs' causes. ISU collaborates with other humanitarian organizations such as the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights to host conferences and seminars.
ISU conducts investigations and makes evidence-based research on gross human rights violations, with a focus on internment camps, displacements, and forced labor currently taking place in East Turkistan. This is to update the international community on the most recent information available about East Turkistan, through a rigorous research process. Thus, ISU is also a meeting point for academics and students who work together as a team to produce research reports and articles on the East Turkistan issues.
ISU tries to empower the East Turkistan diaspora members who are Canadians, permanent residents, refugees, and refugee claimants in terms of integration, education, employment, and psychological health. Women, orphans, and elderlies are ISU’s main priority. ISU offers language, employment, and Islamic courses to adults and children. It also offers English courses to help Uyghurs better integrate into the Canadian civil society. Members and volunteers proactively assist and guide Uyghurs in need through different situations and refer them to useful resources available in the community.
