On February 5th, 1997, thousands of Uyghurs and other Turkic people of East Turkistan protested peacefully in the city of Ghulja in response to the restrictions against Uyghur culture and the execution of over 30 human rights activists. Chinese authorities violently cracked down on this peaceful demonstration, killing over 100 protesters and arresting over a thousand Uyghurs in the following days.
This Friday marks the 24th Anniversary of the Ghulja Massacre. In commemoration of this tragedy, International Support for Uyghurs (ISU) is hosting a webinar. It will consist of the honorable David Kilgour, the Uyghur activist Rukiya Turdush, the concentration camp witness Zumret Dawut, and ISU president and Ghulja Massacre witness Bakhtiar Semseddin.
Please join us in showing support for the victims of the Ghulja Massacre and the victims of the ongoing genocide.
