Idris Hasan is facing extradition to China by the Moroccan Government

In late July 2021, a Uyghur man, Idris Hasan, was arrested and detained by the Moroccan authorities at Casablanca. As a father of three children, Mr. Hasan flew to Morocco from Turkey, a country where he no longer felt safe. The man was therefore trying to seek refuge from the grasps of the Chinese government elsewhere. However, due to Mr. Hasan’s activism, Beijing issued a Red Notice with Interpol. Consequently, he was arbitrarily detained in Morocco at the request of Beijing and was at risk of being deported back to China on “terrorism” charges where he will likely be “disappeared”, sentenced to prison, or at best, sent to a concentration camp or forced labour camp. It was brought to our attention today (December 15th, 2021) that the Moroccan Cassation Court has decided to deport Mr. Hasan back to China.

It is not the first time the Chinese government abuses Interpol’s system and uses it as a tool for its own political agendas. Therefore, International Support for Uyghurs (ISU) is organizing a protest on Friday December 17th at 1:30PM in front of the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Montreal to ask the Moroccan authorities to revoke their decision on deporting Mr. Idris Hasan to China where his life will be in danger.
