Formal Determination of the Uyghur Genocide

Before leaving office, State Secretary Mike Pompeo announced this Tuesday the US government’s recognition that China is committing “genocide and crime against humanity” against the Uyghurs and other Turkic people of East Turkistan. Newly appointed State Secretary, John Blinken, endorsed this announcement. Uyghurs have congratulated Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and expect the furtherance of tough American policies on China. President of East Turkistan Information Center, Rukiye Turdush, says that this decision has a symbolic meaning, and puts a criminal stamp on China. Like other Uyghurs, she hopes that governments around the world will share the burden with the United States to stop the ongoing genocide. The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development (SDIR) recognizes the Chinese oppression of Uyghurs as genocide and recommends its formal determination by the Canadian government. We stand behind the Subcommittee on human rights and ask the Canadian government to work within legal frameworks of international bodies to recognize that acts being committed against Uyghurs constitute of genocide.

Détermination formelle du génocide ouïghour

Avant de quitter ses fonctions, le secrétaire d’État Mike Pompeo a annoncé ce mardi la reconnaissance par le gouvernement américain « du génocide et crime contre l’humanité » contre les Ouïghours et autres peuples turcophones du Turkistan oriental par la Chine. Le secrétaire d'État nouvellement nommé, John Blinken, a confirmé cette annonce. Les Ouïghours félicitent Joe Biden et la vice-présidente Kamala Harris, et s'attendent à la continuité des politiques strictes américaines à l'égard de la Chine. La présidente du East Turkistan Information Center, Rukiye Turdush, affirme que cette décision a une signification symbolique et met une étampe criminelle sur la Chine. Comme d'autres Ouïghours, elle espère que les gouvernements internationaux partageront le fardeau avec les États-Unis pour arrêter le génocide en cours. Le Sous-comité des droits internationaux de la personne du Comité permanent des affaires étrangères et du développement international (SDIR) reconnaît l'oppression chinoise des Ouïghours comme un génocide et recommande sa détermination officielle par le gouvernement canadien. Nous appuyons le Sous-comité des droits humains et appelons le gouvernement canadien à travailler dans les cadres juridiques des organismes internationaux pour reconnaître que les actes commis contre les Ouïghours constituent un génocide.
