Canada Reviewing Request to Sanction Hikvision, Other Chinese Surveillance Companies

The Canadian Government is currently reviewing whether to impose sanctions on several Chinese surveillance companies, including Hikvision. Hikvision, as well as other Chinese tech giants, is reported to be involved in the surveillance of Uyghur Muslims in East Turkestan, contributing to their oppression, mistreatment, and genocide. It is imperative that our government takes decisive action to protect the Uyghurs against China’s attempt to genocide the Uyghur population.

A ban on these technology companies within Canada would not only uphold our ethical standards but also send a strong message against the misuse of technology for oppressive purposes. Canada needs to lead the example and reinforce its commitment to protect human rights before it's too late. We call on policymakers and you, as a member of Parliament to swiftly move forward and consider a comprehensive ban on companies complicit in genocide.

The International Support for Uyghurs (ISU) echoes this call to action and urges Canadian MPs to recognize the genocide in East Turkistan formally and take action. ISU believes Canada's leadership is crucial in the global fight against these human rights violations. We advocate for stronger diplomatic measures, increased support for Uyghur refugees, and greater international pressure on China to cease its oppressive policies. By taking a firm stance, Canada can contribute significantly to ending the ongoing suffering of the Uyghur people and affirm its commitment to human rights and justice.
