Urgent Action Needed: Support Uyghur Rights Following EU Parliament Resolution

On behalf of the International Support for Uyghurs (ISU), I write to highlight a critical moment in the fight for Uyghur rights. On October 19th, 2024, the European Parliament overwhelmingly adopted a resolution condemning China’s persecution of Uyghurs and calling for the immediate release of prominent Uyghur figures, including Ilham Tohti and Gulshan Abbas.

This resolution emphasizes China’s crimes against humanity, including forced sterilizations and the destruction of Uyghur identity. It calls for international action and demands that the PRC stop these abuses. Ziba Murat, the daughter of Dr. Abbas, continues to advocate for her mother’s release, who is being held on fabricated charges with deteriorating health.

Canada's Role:
We urge the Canadian Parliament to:
1. Join the EU in pressuring China to release detained Uyghurs.
2. Suspend extradition treaties with China and Hong Kong.
3. Support a unified global stance at the UN to hold China accountable for its actions.

Canada has a responsibility to stand for human rights. We hope you will lead efforts to address this urgent issue.

ISU remains committed to promoting human rights and would welcome the opportunity to provide further information on this critical issue.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. We look forward to hearing your thoughts.
