International Support for Uyghurs, in partnership with Action Free Hong Kong, No CI Québec and the Tibet in Québec association will be holding a protest on Sunday to denounce the concealment of the crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Chinese government with the Olympic Games. The associations are making the following demands:
-Impose sanctions on Peng Jiantang and Chen Guanguo, two individuals in a position of power in Hong Kong and Turkistan (Xinjiang) respectively. The sanctions can be drafted following the model of the Magnitsky act.
-Asking the Québec and Canadian government to accept more political refugees from China. We should be prioritizing persecuted groups including the Uyghurs, Tibetans, Hong Kongers and inner Mongolians.
-A boycott of products coming from factories using forced labor from the marginalized groups mentioned previously.
The protest is scheduled to start at 2:00PM on February 20th in front of the Olympic building in Montréal (500 boul. René Lévesque Ouest) before marching towards the Chinese consulate in Montréal (2100 rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest). The protesters should arrive in front of the consulate around 2:45PM. Speeches are scheduled once in front of the consulate.
